Community rules and conditions

Terms of Use

These Terms explain the rules for using the Yekja mobile app, web app and related community services.

Effective date: 26 July 2026 Minimum age: 18+
01

Agreement to these Terms

By creating an account or using Yekja, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Yekja.

These Terms do not limit any mandatory consumer rights that apply to you under Dutch or European law.

02

Who operates Yekja?

Yekja is operated by:

Vereniging Yekja KvK number: 98966138 Waalseweg 49, 3999 NP, Tull en 't Waal, Netherlands team@yekja.nl
03

Who may use Yekja?

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement. You may not create an account for another person without their permission.

You must provide accurate information and keep important account details reasonably up to date.

04

What Yekja provides

Yekja is a community platform that helps members connect through:

Support

Questions and guidance

Members can request guidance from the community or from volunteers. Some requests may be private or anonymous.

Giveaways

Free exchange

Members can offer and receive useful items without charging a purchase price.

Events

Member-created gatherings

Members can create or join activities such as game nights, poetry gatherings, book readings or parties in the park.

Yekja generally provides the digital space and tools for members to connect. Unless Yekja is clearly named as the organiser, seller or provider, interactions are between the participating members.

05

Your account and security

  • Keep your password and sign-in method secure.
  • Do not let another person use your account.
  • Notify Yekja promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
  • You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless the activity results from a failure for which Yekja is legally responsible.
06

Support requests and volunteers

Volunteers and community members share personal experience and general guidance. Unless expressly stated otherwise, they do not act as doctors, lawyers, financial advisers, emergency services or government representatives.

Always verify important information with the relevant qualified professional or authority. For emergencies or immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service rather than using Yekja.

A private request may hide your name and profile image, but the text you write may still be shown to eligible responders. Do not include identifying details in the text when you want to remain anonymous.

07

Giveaways

Giveaway arrangements are made directly between members. Members must describe items honestly and disclose known safety issues or important defects.

Do not offer illegal, stolen, recalled, counterfeit or dangerous items. Prescription medicines, controlled substances, weapons and other prohibited goods may not be offered through Yekja.

Members are responsible for agreeing on collection, transport and safe handover arrangements. Inspect an item before accepting it when reasonably possible.

08

Events

Any eligible member may create an event. Event organisers are responsible for accurate event information, lawful organisation, necessary permissions, venue rules, safety arrangements and communicating changes or cancellations.

Attendees decide whether an event is suitable for them and remain responsible for their own conduct, transport, belongings and personal safety.

Unless Yekja is expressly identified as the organiser, Yekja does not organise, supervise or guarantee member-created events.

09

Your content

You retain ownership of content you create. You give Vereniging Yekja a non-exclusive, worldwide and royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical display, and show that content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, moderate and promote the Yekja service.

The licence ends when the content is deleted, except where temporary technical copies, backups, legal retention, safety evidence or content shared within an ongoing conversation must reasonably remain.

You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to upload your content and that it does not unlawfully infringe another person’s privacy, copyright, image rights or other rights.

10

Prohibited conduct and content

You may not use Yekja to:

  • Break the law or encourage illegal activity
  • Harass, threaten, exploit, discriminate against or impersonate another person
  • Share child sexual abuse material, groom minors or endanger children
  • Post fraudulent, deceptive, stolen or counterfeit offers
  • Send spam, misleading promotions or repeated unwanted messages
  • Publish another person’s private data without a lawful basis
  • Upload malware or interfere with Yekja’s security or operation
  • Scrape, copy or collect user information through automated means without written permission
  • Circumvent restrictions, moderation measures or account suspensions
  • Use Yekja primarily to advertise an unauthorised commercial service

The Child Safety Standards form part of these community rules.

11

Reporting content and behaviour

You can report inappropriate content or behaviour through the app where a reporting option is available, or by emailing team@yekja.nl.

Reports should be made honestly and include enough information for review. Repeatedly submitting clearly unfounded or abusive reports may itself lead to restrictions.

12

Moderation, restrictions and suspension

Yekja may remove or reduce the visibility of content, restrict a feature, suspend an account or terminate access where reasonably necessary because of:

  • A breach of these Terms or the Child Safety Standards
  • Illegal or unsafe content or behaviour
  • Fraud, spam, impersonation or platform manipulation
  • A credible risk to members, Yekja or third parties
  • A valid legal obligation or authority request
  • Repeated misuse after warnings or earlier restrictions

Decisions will take account of the nature, seriousness, frequency and context of the issue. Where appropriate and legally permitted, Yekja will explain the decision and offer a way to request review. Urgent action may be taken without prior warning when needed for safety, security or legal compliance.

13

Requesting review of a moderation decision

If you disagree with a content or account decision, email team@yekja.nl and include the account email, the relevant content or decision, and why you believe it should be reconsidered.

Yekja will review the request within a reasonable period and inform you of the outcome. Submitting a review request is free.

14

Yekja’s intellectual property

The Yekja name, logo, design, software, databases and original materials belong to Vereniging Yekja or its licensors. You may use the service for its intended personal community purposes, but may not copy, resell, reverse engineer or commercially exploit it without permission, except where the law expressly allows this.

15

Third-party services and links

Yekja may use or link to third-party services, maps, websites, authentication providers or app stores. Their own terms and policies apply to their services. Yekja is not responsible for external content that it does not control.

16

Service availability and changes

We aim to keep Yekja available and reliable, but uninterrupted or error-free operation cannot be guaranteed. Features may be changed, tested, limited or discontinued for maintenance, security, compliance or product-development reasons.

Where a change materially reduces a core service, we will provide reasonable notice when circumstances allow.

17

Ending your use of Yekja

You may stop using Yekja at any time. You may request account and data deletion by contacting team@yekja.nl .

Sections that by their nature should continue after termination, including rights in previously shared content, safety evidence, intellectual property, responsibility and dispute provisions, may continue to apply.

18

Responsibility and liability

Yekja is not a party to most member-to-member arrangements. Members remain responsible for their own posts, advice, item handovers, meetings, events and interactions.

To the extent permitted by law, Vereniging Yekja is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss arising from another member’s conduct or from information, items or events that Yekja does not provide or control.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or mandatory consumer rights.

19

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when Yekja’s services, risks or legal obligations change. The updated Terms will be published here with a new effective date. Material changes may also be announced in the app or by email before they take effect where appropriate.

20

Applicable law

These Terms are governed by Dutch law. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the European Union, you also retain any mandatory protections provided by the law of your country of residence.
